The robot vacuum cleaner, also called a robovac or a roomba, has gradually been widely used in daily life because of its intelligent setting, time saving and great performance. As a smart home device, it has multi-functions of scheduled cleaning, self-charging, and voice intelligence. Usually the robot vacuum clears are with some components like built-in batteries and motors, which will get overheated when the machines are operating. How to detect or minimize the risks? NTC thermistor will help in real time and protect the machine.
According to GIR (Global Info Research), the global vacuum cleaner revenue in 2023 is approximately US$4,546.6 million, and is expected to reach US$8,646.9 million in 2030, with a CAGR of 9.6% from 2024 to 2030. This growth trend reflects the potential of the robot vacuum cleaner market and the increasing acceptance of smart home devices by consumers. China, as the largest production region, accounts for more than 80% of the market share, while North America and Europe, also important markets, account for a certain percentage each. In the next few years, the Asia-Pacific region, especially Japan, South Korea, India and Southeast Asia, will become a market force that cannot be ignored.
The main components of the robot vacuum cleaner include: the surface cover, the vacuum inlet, the cavity, the dirt bin, the mobile carrier, main brush/ side brush, etc. Multiple components work together to realize the robovac’s automatic charging, automatic cleaning and other functions. The mobile carrier is equipped with a drive motor, a battery, air duct, a pressure device, and a detection unit, etc., which controls the daily operation of the entire robovac.
The power source of the robot vacuum cleaner comes from the battery and the motor. Generally speaking, long-life lithium batteries and imported motors are preferred. The motor is mainly composed of the movement, the cylinder, the front and rear inner and outer end covers, the air inlet and outlet, the gas pipeline, etc., and is mainly responsible for the entire drive system. The battery provides continuous and stable power for the motor, sensor, control unit and other electronic components. At the same time, the battery capacity determines the working time of the robovac .
In daily operation, it is important to detect the battery and motor operation, especially their temperature. Next, let’s take a closer look at how the significant NTC thermistor of the robot vacuum cleaner works.
1.Temperature detecting: NTC thermistors are installed near the motor, battery and other heat-prone components of the robovac. It can sense the temperature changes of these parts in real time and transmit the signalsto the control system.
2.Temperature control and safety protection: When the robot vacuum cleaneris working or charging itself, the motor and battery will generate heat. The NTC thermistorwill adjust and control according to the temperature changes of the device. Meanwhile, the cooling system will be turned on in time and the robovac will operate under a lower temperature range, to prevent the device from being damaged or causing irreparable accidents due to overheating and overcharging.
3.Monitor and control the brushcleaning water temperature: High-end robovacscan also clean the brush automatically. This function will be triggered when the robovac returns to the base station after completing the mopping function. The brush will be cleaned under 55℃ water to dissolve oil stains. The NTC thermistor can accurately measure and control the water temperature, so that the entire cleaning process is at a constant temperature, and the cleaning efficiency will be improved.
4.Optimize working performance: The NTC thermistor will also adjust the working time of the robovacthrough real-time temperature monitoring according to the user’s living habits, to savework loss and extend the service life of the equipment.
The NTC thermistor developed by Exsense plays an essential role in the operation of the robovac. Its application helps to ensure the normal operation of the equipment, improve work efficiency, and extend the service life of the battery and motor.
